Tyson Foods Inc. confirmed that a feed mill in Sedalia, Mo., partially collapsed on June 7.
“We are managing an incident at our Sedalia, Mo., feed mill following a structural issue impacting the feed mill,” a Tyson Foods spokesperson said. “There were no injuries, and we are thankful for the response of local officials. As our teams work to fully resolve the incident and restore power, we will source our feed from other feed mills to minimize the impact upon the supply of feed to our independent contract growers in the region.”
According to media outlet KMMO, fire crews were called in around 4 p.m. on June 7. Nine emergency responders were on the scene for about four hours to secure the site and contain corn that had spilled from the grain elevator.
Pettis County Fire District Chief Mike Harding estimated that 2,000 gallons of a non-hazardous liquid spilled in addition to the corn that crews could clean up.
The cause of the collapse is currently under investigation. Harding noted there was no explosion and the collapse appeared to be a structural failure.
